THE GREAT SEAL EAGLE PAPERWEIGHT

"The most prominent feature is the American bald eagle supporting a shield, or escutcheon, which is composed of 13 red and white stripes, representing the original States, and a blue top which unites the shield and represents Congress. The motto, E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, one) alludes to this union. The olive branch and 13 arrows denote the power of peace and war which is exclusively vested in Congress. The constellation of stars denotes a new State taking its place and rank among other sovereign powers." U.S. State Department Booklet-

Facing opposition at first, the Bald Eagle is today unquestionably the national emblem of the United States of America. Previously decimated throughout the USA, now protected by law, the Bald Eagles still survive in substantial numbers in Canada and Alaska, while migrating to the U.S. The Eagles hunt and fish with deadly skill. Capable of swooping and diving at high speeds, they demonstrate remarkable cunning and courage. Known to mate for life the Eagles are dedicated to their young as excellent parents and defenders of their nest. Courtship involves 'cartwheeling' as a pair to build trust and falcon swoops by the male 'diving pell-mell toward the ground' over and over again to impress his mate.
